Squire Abbott commission, 1821 November 28.

Consists of one commission from the Baptist Missionary Society of Massachusetts to "Elder Squire Abbot" to labor in "Eldredge County" for a period of three months at the request of the Huron (Ohio) Baptist Missionary Society. Commission is signed by Thomas Baldwin (President) and Daniel Sharp (Secretary) and dated from Boston, Nov. 28, 1821. Also includes an undated, unsigned, typewritten two page biographical sketch titled "Rev. Squire Abbott."

Squire Abbott (1770-1852) was born in Brookfield, Massachusetts, and raised in New York state before becoming a Baptist minister. Abbott moved to Ohio around 1818 to become the second pastor of the Kingsville Baptist church and, after a move further west, the first settled minister in the town of Henrietta in Lorain County.
